Gamification Overview
Takonaut includes a gamification system that turns everyday work into a rewarding experience. By completing tasks, participating in ceremonies, and hitting milestones, you earn XP and coins that unlock levels and rewards.
How it works
The gamification system has four core components:
| Component | What it is |
|---|---|
| XP (Experience Points) | Points earned by doing work. XP determines your level. |
| Coins | Virtual currency you can spend in the shop. |
| Levels | Your progression tier, based on total XP accumulated. |
| Rewards | Items available for purchase in the shop using coins. |
Everything ties together: do great work, earn XP and coins, level up, and spend coins on rewards that personalize your experience.
Earning XP
XP is awarded automatically when you perform actions that contribute to your team’s success:
- Completing tasks — finishing a task earns XP based on its story points and priority.
- Submitting standups — daily standup submissions earn a small but consistent XP reward.
- Participating in ceremonies — attending sprint planning, retrospectives, and reviews contributes XP.
- Maintaining streaks — submitting standups on consecutive days builds a streak that multiplies XP.
- Completing quests — finishing challenges earns bonus XP (see Quests).
Your current XP, level, and progress toward the next level are visible in your profile and on the leaderboard.
Earning coins
Coins are the spendable currency of the gamification system. You earn coins through:
- XP milestones — reaching certain XP thresholds grants coin bonuses.
- Bounties — managers can place bounties on specific tasks, awarding coins to whoever completes them.
- Appreciation — managers can send appreciation messages that come with coin rewards.
- Quest rewards — completing quests earns coins alongside XP.
- Manager grants — DMs can directly grant coins to team members for outstanding work.
Coins accumulate in your wallet and can be spent in the Shop.
Levels
Your level is determined by how much total XP you have earned. As you accumulate XP, you progress through increasingly higher levels. Each level requires more XP than the last, rewarding sustained contribution over time.
Levels are displayed as badges next to your name throughout the app — on task cards, in the leaderboard, and in your profile. They give your team a quick sense of how experienced and active you are.
Manager tools
Delivery Managers and team leads have additional gamification tools to motivate their teams:
- Grant coins — directly award coins to a team member for exceptional work.
- Set bounties — attach a coin bounty to a task. The bounty is awarded to whoever completes it, incentivizing high-priority or difficult work.
- Remove bounties — retract a bounty from a task if priorities change.
- Send appreciation — send a public appreciation message to a team member, which comes with a coin reward and is visible to the team.
- DM budget — each DM has a coin budget they can distribute. The budget is tracked so managers can see how much they have spent and how much remains.
